Girl suffers serious burns in acid attack by father, uncle

VEHARI: A girl suffered serious burn wounds on Thursday when her father and an uncle threw acid on her in Chak 56-K/B, Ludden, some 40kms from here.

Reports said that Rabia Bibi, with 70 per cent burns, was shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan in a critical condition.

Rabia had contracted marriage with her cousin Nazakat. After getting divorce from him, she eloped with another cousin, Jaffar. She returned home after a panchayat assured her that she would be married.

According to panchayat’s decision, Rabia was to tie the knot with Jaffar, but her father Shaukat and uncle Riaz were not agreed on it.

On Thursday, they threw acid on Rabia and informed police that Jaffar and his accomplices had committed the crime.

The Luddan police took Jaffar into custody, bur after investigation arrested Riaz who confessed to having committed the crime. Later, police also arrested Shaukat. A case has been registered against both accused under Section 336 B and 7-ATA.

Why the Acid throwers are not being executed ? Is this crime any lesser than acts of terrorism ? Over the past years / decades many such culprits are reported to have been arrested but the nation / masses never come to know what happened afterwards. No wonder then that masses have no other option except to believe that such culprits are released by our corrupt police.

As an Indian happy that such crimes are reported & highlighted in pakistan. Only hope that the criminals are punished & are not protected in the name of religion using any primitive religious rule. Because only then women will have the courage to come forward. Surely less number of crimes reported doesn't necessarily mean that the society is safe.

Hang on - so let me get this straight. An illegal body allowed the couple to get married - that in itself is a crime. Panchayats/Jirgas should be outlawed and anyone that takes part in them should be punished for interfering with the law of the land. You can not have an effective legal system whilst these panchayats are in place. Anyway, so the father and the uncle burned the girl and blamed it on her fiancee. So not only are they guilty of the attack, but also guilty for perverting the cause of justice. It is about time Pakistanis started to respect their daughters. You ruin your daughters lives, you will ruin the country. I am hanging my head in shame after reading this story.

now the girl has been burnt by acid throwing by two persons . first is her treatment completely and her rehabilitation . second the person doing it be punished properly. I am not sure that with the police which we have it can be done.
