OKARA: Members of Deepalpur’s Tehsil Bar Association have filed three writ petitions against a police team for ‘manhandling’ lawyers.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Irfan Saeed issued a notice to policemen and summoned them on Friday (today).

The Okara police and lawyers have been at daggers drawn after a clash between some TBA members and ASI Rai Zulfiqar of the Haveli Lakha police station.

Police registered a case 588/15 a few days ago against 13 people, including three lawyers.

On the other hand, advocates Abdul Majeed Wattoo, Usman Bashir and Malik Mehmood Ejaz Channa filed petitions against Deepalpur Police Circle ASP Muhammad Baqa Bugti, Haveli Lakha SHO Riazuddin Gujjar, ASIs Rai Zulfiqar and Abdullah, constable Javed, Inspector Mehr Mauhammad Yousaf and the Deepalpur SHO besides unidentified policemen for “manhandling and humiliating the lawyers”.

The court issued notices to the respondents and also summoned police record on Friday.

The Bar members said they would continue strike against police.

ARRESTED: A-Division police arrested a man on Thursday for axing his wife to death in Master Park.

Police said Habib killed his wife, Rani Bibi, 65, over domestic quarrels.

WALK: District Coordination Officer Kaisar Saleem led a walk to raise awareness among the public regarding dengue fever from the Okara Tehsil Municipal Administration office to the District Complex.

Health and municipality officials and the public attended the walk.
