LAHORE: Construction of signal-free junctions at Qainchi, Ghazi Road and Khaira and removal of bottlenecks from drains on Multan Road to Babu Sabu in Lahore besides making linear accelerator operational at Nishtar Hospital, Multan, were the 17 development schemes approved by the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) of Punjab with an estimated cost of Rs37.4 billion on Saturday.

Presided over by Punjab Planning and Development Board Chairman Irfan Elahi, the 48th meeting of PDWP of 2014-15 year approved selective lining of irrigation channels in Punjab (Phase-III,

revised) at a cost of Rs2.5bn; augmentation of desilting capability of Punjab irrigation department at a cost of Rs275m and capacity building of Directorate-General Monitoring and Evaluation (DGM&E) for improved project planning, monitoring and evaluation of development projects in Punjab (second revision) at a cost of Rs244m.

The approved schemes included construction of signal-free junctions at Qainchi, Ghazi Road and Khaira, Lahore (revised), at a cost of Rs6.5bn; construction of canal express way from Gattwala Bridge to Sahian Wala (M-3) interchange, Faisalabad (length 25.2 km) at a cost of Rs6.74bn.

Provision of sewerage system for Lahore’s union council 117, 118 and 120 at a cost of Rs6.44bn; removal of bottlenecks from Lahore Wasa’s Birdwood, Central and Cantonment drains from Multan Road to Babu Sabu at a cost of Rs2.72bn were also approved at the meeting.

The other approved schemes included making the Linear Accelerator at Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology of Multan’s Nishtar Hospital (revised) at a cost of Rs325.250m; provision of residential colony of Ghazi Khan Medical College at Dera Ghazi Khan at a cost of Rs278.063m; construction of an interchange (Lahore Ring Road Project-Package-4) at Saggian Chowk at a cost of Rs2.18bn.
