THIS is apropos a recent statement by President Tayyip Erdogan wherein he slammed the New York Times for overstepping its rights and interfering in Turkey’s affair.

It was an impolite editorial , criticising Erdogan’s rule and accusing him of a crackdown ahead of the polls, which forced the Turkish president to angrily tell the US daily to ‘know its place as a newspaper’.

It is important for our national leadership to take a leaf from Mr Erdogan’s book and show some spine. The same should have been said by our leadership when US journalists ‘disclose’ or tell the ‘truths’ about Pakistan. The foreign media, be it American, British or French, needs to be told sternly by our civilian leadership to refrain from poking their nose into the affairs of other countries.

What goes wrong in Pakistan is its internal matter.
