HYDERABAD: Describing Ustad Bukhari as a great poet of the 19th century, Sindhi poets and writers paid him tribute at a programme held at Mumtaz Mirza Auditorium, Sindh Museum Hyderabad, organised by the Sindh culture department here on Monday evening.

Department Director General Manzoor Ahmed said his department held such programmes to admire services of the people related to arts across the province and to apprise new generation about their works.

He said Mr Bukhari was a popular poet in Sindh and India, and people held him in high esteem.

Researcher Taj Joyo said beauty was innate in him and he was a common man. He highlighted social problems in his literary works.

Sindh scholar Adal Soomro, poet Ali Dost Ajiz, Bukhari’s son Altaf Bukhari, poet Abdul Ghaffar Tabbassum and others said Mr Bukhari used all genres of poetry to pen his works.

They said Mr Bukhari had command over poetry that revolved around the beloved and love towards his mother. Whatever he wrote was true, they added.

They said he was strict and staid in terms of education. He painted rural life and growers of Sindh in his poetic works and also promoted short stories for children and stage drama, they added.

They said he used simple words of the Sindhi language so that all people could understand his poetry.

Local artists and singers, including Shehnila Ali, Ghulam Shabbir Shahani and others, also performed at the programme.
