GUJRANWALA: The Crime Investigation Agency ( CIA) claimed on Friday to have arrested seven members of a car lifters’ gang and seized eight cars from their possession.

At a press conference, CIA SP Tahir Maqsood said that accused Shabbir Ahmad, Asghar Ali, Haji Anwar, Amjad Qasim, Abid, Irfan Shah, Azam and others were arrested from various parts of the province. Eight stolen vehicles were also seized from their possession.

He said police assistant sub-inspector Shabbir Ahmad of Bahawalnagar and advocate Asghar Ali of Okara had also been arrested for patronizing the gang.

DSP Imran Abbas Chadhar said that accused had confessed to lifting several other cars from various cities. He said police were after their remaining accomplices.

ROAD CRASH: A minor girl died while her father suffered injuries in a road accident on Friday.

Muhammad Afzal was on his way along with his daughter Zahra and relative woman Farzana by motorcycle on GT road. When they reached at Lohianwala bypass, their two-wheeler collided head on with a truck. Zahra died on the spot while Afzal and Farzana were admitted to local DHQ hospital in a critical condition.

Police have registered a case against the absconding truck driver.
