LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday sustained its registrar office’s objection to a petition seeking recovery of three members of defunct Hizbut Tahrir from the alleged custody of agencies.

The office had objected to the maintainability of the petition saying the main offices of all agencies made respondents were in Islamabad. Therefore, the office asked the petitioner to approach the Islamabad High Court.

The court heard the petition as “objection case” and sustained the decision of the office.

Ms Maqbool Shaheen Rehman stated in petition that the secret agencies picked up her two sons Saad Rehman Jagranvi and Asad Rehman Jagranvi along with a friend from their residence. She said no case was registered against her sons when they were arrested. She sought recovery of her sons.

REPLY SOUGHT: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought a written reply from the Punjab Health Department director general about stoppage of a driver’s salary.

Muhammad Ashraf, through his counsel, told the court that he contracted cardiac disease and was admitted to Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).

The counsel said the respondent DG rejected a medical certificate of the petitioner when he resumed duty after the ailment. He said the respondent stopped salary of the petitioner without issuing any show-cause notice.

He argued that no one could be condemned unheard. He requested the court to order the respondent to restore salary of the petitioner.

Justice Qasim Khan expressed dismay over the punishment to the petitioner without affording an opportunity of defence and observed that the bureaucrats believed they were above the law.

The judge directed the health DG to submit his reply on the next hearing.
