RAWALPINDI: A police razakar (volunteer) was shot and injured by a suspect who was stopped at a police checkpoint at Ghousia Chowk, Sadiqabad, on Wednesday night, police said.

Khayal Mohammad suffered bullet injuries and was shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital where he was stated to be in critical condition.

Police said they were carrying out routine checking of vehicles when they signaled a motorcyclist to stop at the picket.

However, instead of stopping, he pulled out a pistol and opened fire on the police personnel, injuring Khayal Mohammad.

The motorcyclist managed to escape, leaving his vehicle behind.

According to the police, the motorcycle had been stolen from Islamabad.
