Vigil planned in US, Canada for schoolchildren killed by Taliban

WASHINGTON: Pakistanis living in the United States and Canada will hold vigils on Friday in more than a dozen cities across North America to mark one month of the Peshawar school massacre.

More than 140 people, mostly children, were killed in a Taliban attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar on Dec. 16.

The vigils in North America are part of global efforts to support the growing movement in Pakistan against terrorism and all extremist ideologies and hate speech.

The organisers are also urging the government to arrest Abdul Aziz of the Lal Masjid (Red Mosque) in accordance with a report filed with the Islamabad administration on Dec 27, 2014.

In Washington, members of the Pakistani American community and their supporters will gather at Dupond Circle at 6.00 pm on Friday.

The venues for the vigil in North American cities are: Boston, Copley Sq; Houston, and New York outside Consulate General of Pakistan, Toronto, Celebration Square, Mississauga; Washington DC, Dupont Circle and Los Angeles, Federal Building. In the UK vigils will be held

in London, outside Pakistan High Commission and York, Vanbrugh Paradise and Market Square, University of York.
