Described by the film's writer/director Joss Whedon as a "genuinely disturbed" robot, the newly released footage gives fans a closer look at the terrifying metal mega-villain Ultron (voiced by James Spader).

Created by Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), and programmed with elements of Stark's personality, Ultron believes he only way he can save humanity is by eradicating it.

"Everyone creates the thing they dread," Ultron declares in the trailer. "I'm going to tear you apart... from the inside."

The trailer also gave us glimpses of a fiery confrontation between the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Stark, with the latter dressed in his Hulkbuster suit.

Returning cast members including Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans), Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) are also spotted throughout the trailer. In terms of the action, we see Thor getting a chance to showcase some weather-manipulating abilities, as well as new cast member Elizabeth Olsen, who will be playing Scarlet Witch, knock out Iron Man.

More of the combat seems to be happening internally among the Avengers rather than between the Avengers and Ultron's army.

The film is the sequel to the 2012 blockbuster The Avengers. Avengers: Age of Ultron is slated for a May 1 theatrical release.

Two furthers films in the franchise are planned after Age of Ultron: Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, which are scheduled for release in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
