ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has instructed universities to maintain the standards of education in their affiliated medical and dental colleges.

In a notification issued on Monday, the PMDC said seat allocations for admissions to the medical and dental colleges should be in accordance with the criteria of the council.

All examinations in the medical and dental colleges should be monitored and evaluated by the universities concerned.

The conversion of the examination systems into the modular system, which is mandatory by the international standards up to 2016, should be ensured.

Universities will have to ensure the registration of teaching faculty of undergraduate/postgraduate medical and dental colleges through their principals/deans within three months of their appointments.

The universities shall also ensure the registration of undergraduate and postgraduate students within three months of their admissions.

More than 60 per cent bed occupancy in the teaching hospitals must be ensured.

Registrar PMDC Dr Amjad Mahmood said the steps had been initiated to ensure better monitoring measures to maintain standards in the medical education.
