LAHORE: A five-day workshop conducted by visiting Pakistani-American physicians concluded on Friday and was attended by more than 800 faculty and students of various medical colleges in the city.

During their weeklong stay that ended on Friday, the visiting doctors delivered lectures on various disciplines of medicine and conducted the workshop attended by faculty and students from CMH Lahore Medical College, Lahore Medical and Dental College and Shalimar Medical and Dental College.

They also conducted an orientation session regarding the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and application procedures for residency in various disciplines of medicine and surgery.

During the closing ceremony held at CMH Medical College, Principal retired Lt General Prof Dr Syed Afzal Ahmad and USEFP Executive Director Rita Akhtar thanked the visiting physicians for dedicating their time and expertise to enrich Pakistani medical education.

Author of this programme, Dr Iqbal Raza, joint executive director at PIMS, Islamabad and vice chair of the USEFP Board of Directors, explained: “The aim is to provide logistical rather than financial support to volunteer physicians who want to ‘give back’ or ‘pay forward’ by matching interests, skills, and expertise of US medical volunteers with those requested by Pakistani medical universities and colleges interested in hosting them.”

On the invitation of the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), also known as the Fulbright Commission, a group of seven Pakistani-American physicians were visiting Lahore from across the US to share their knowledge and expertise with students and faculty at various medical institutions.
