Same owner, rider, trainer seal unprecedented four wins

KARACHI: The trio of owner, rider and trainer celebrated quadruple as all but one favourite and co-favourites obliged punters in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The trend was set from the second race after Mohammad Essa had piloted home unknown pedigree bay mare Beautiful Rose to victory in the first race.

The winning horse got past bay colt Free Hand by two lengths-and-a- half. Colt Hot Boy was placed third while co-favourite bay horse Sohna Noor completed the frame among six starters.

With two wins already under his belt, bay colt Postal Address edged co-favourite bay horse Lucky Lyna by head in a photo-finish verdict to complete hat-trick.

Owned by Syed Sibghatullah Shah Pir Pagara and trained by Mohyuddin, the winning horse was galloped home by rider Sohail Ahmed.

Filly Khazana had to be content with third place four lengths behind while filly Sonia Again completed the board further beaten by half-a-length.

The winning combination struck again in the next race when outsider two-year-old bay filly Stylish lowered the colours of 20 to 100 favourite filly Accepted by five lengths.

Public fancy bay colt Karobar presented the trio with another winner — their third victory of the day — winning hands down by eight lengths over mare Meri Sahiba in the fourth race while fast chasing filly Loyal Lady come from behind to seal the fate imposing to two-length victory over mare National Queen in the concluding race.

In an earlier race, colt The Kings Best stretched his winning run prevailing over bay horse Pathan by nine lengths.

Before the start of second race, a minute’s silence was observed for the demise of trainers M. Rafiq K and M. Rafiq Micky, instructor Rehmania Riding School Abdul Qadir, veterinary doctor Rafiq Ahmed Pirzada and his assistant Ustad Azim Khan and peon Ahmed Mehar.

Meanwhile, the next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Dec 20 (Saturday).
