KARACHI: Robbers looted around Rs1 million from a bank in North Nazimabad on Wednesday, Tamuria police said.

They added that five robbers stormed the Allied Bank branch in Block N, North Nazimabad, at around 12.55pm, snatched weapons from two guards posted at the bank and took away Rs1m from the counter in three to four minutes and fled.

This was the third time that the bank branch was looted, said Gulberg SP Chaudhry Asad Ali. Previously, the bank was robbed in 2008 and 2010.

The senior officer said the guards did not put up any resistance. They were taken into custody for interrogation. At the time of the incident, power had gone off for two hours and the bank did not have any alternative arrangement for electricity that could have helped the investigators ascertain the identity of the robbers with the help of CCTV installed there.
