Rehman Malik calls for probe into Arjumand Hussain’s sacking

KARACHI: Senator Rehman Malik says he has asked for a Parliamentary committee to investigate allegations that he politically influenced the job termination of a man who filmed his offloading from a PIA flight.
The video clip, filmed by former Gerry's Group General Manager Arjumand Azhar Hussain and showing irate passengers expelling Malik for a delay of a PIA flight, had gone viral on the internet and social media.

Hussain was fired from his job at the Gerry's Group earlier this week, with rumours circulating that the termination was the result of political pressure exerted by Senator Malik, who was the Federal Interior Minister from 2008 to 2013 during the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) led government.
Malik took to social media early Friday, tweeting a letter he said he has written to the chairman Senate asking him to form a Parliamentary committee to probe the media reports and 'false allegations' against him.
“I would like to draw your kind attention to the recent social and electronic media reports wherein a false allegation has been levelled that I got Arjumand Azhar terminated from his job by using my political pressure,” he writes in the letter addressed to Chairman Senate.
"I had earlier stated in the media that I have no role whatsoever in his termination. I would like to request you to kindly have the following investigated by a Parliamentary Committee to bring the real facts in front of the public," writes Malik.
He further asks the committee to determine the "real facts" behind Hussain's termination, and to ascertain if any political pressure or influence was exerted by him for Hussain's termination.
Malik also tweeted two other similar letters — one addressed to Hussain expressing his sympathies over his termination and offering his help, and the other asking the chairman of the Travel Agents Association of Pakistan (TAAP) to investigate the matter.
Earlier this week, Gerry's Group denied that the sacking was due to political influence or that it had anything to do with the video, saying their decision was “purely based on merit”.
In a post on Facebook, Gerry Group said Hussain "was a new employee whose services were subject to successful completion of probation and his performance was under review at which point the company decided not to confirm his appointment".
"We realize that the timings of his employment probation and his video recording are not too distant hence Arjumand Hussain has used this to politicize the matter to his advantage," said the Gerry's group.
Mr Hussain has not yet responded to Malik's offer of help or call for an investigation into the allegations.

Before this Parlimentary Review, Mr Malik should offer a public apology for keeping the people stranded on the plane for a few hours, so he could board it. Then, he should also ensure that the poor employee is re-hired and that Gerrys is fined for unfair dismissal of an employee, who was only doing his job by making sure the plane was dispatched on schedule, in compliance with the CAA regulations.
These people have made Pakistan a mockery in the world. When will our people wake up to realize this gross injustice to our motherland and themselves.

It would be impossible to prove anything through a "parliamentary probe" which amounts to nothing more than the word of Gerry Group management. While it is possible that Mr Hussain's employment was terminated for the reasons offered by his employers, it shouldn't be all that difficult to establish the facts. Whether it happens is a different matter, and this gentleman will be forgotten about in next few days.

Dear Mr. Arjumand Hussain,
So far you have shown great courage by challenging status quo and painful VIP culture. Kindly take another bold step by coming forward and showing your appointment and other job related details with Gerry's, this should include:
1- Your date of appointment (to make it clear whether or not you had been a new employee under probation).
2- Your performance review detailing targets vs your performance (to make it clear whether you had been a performer or otherwise).
In the changing Pakistani society lets decide in case you wish to gain benefits by politicizing this issue you will apologize with whole nation in general and with Senator Rehman Malik in particular also face the legal consequences as well. On the other hand, if your point is proved then Senator Rehman Malik shall be required to resign from Senate and politics. Gerry's to be fined and you will be duly compensated.
Lets take this as a test case.

Futile efforts to get some credibility in public eyes? May be too late. Image is already cast. A person who was Interior Minister, could not control crimes, could not eliminate bhatta chargers, could not eliminate target killers, now a comfortable job of Senator? Drawing big salary and benefits all paid by poor tax payers of Pakistan? Yes, this is DEMOCRACY PAKISTANI STYLE. Pakistan needs political leaders who can deliver positive results, there are already too many politicians making political speeches day 7 night. Almighty have mercy on people of Pakistan (Ameen).

Malik Sahab please refrain from making lousy attempts to clear your name, first of all since you have zero credibility. Even if you are right, nobody is going to believe you (sorry but reputation goes a long way). You did not seem to care when you were in power and getting this reputation.
A guy makes a video posts it on the web video goes viral and get you and another MNA in trouble within a day the guy looses his job, coincidence? maybe!! but at all roads lead to ... you are out of luck on this one. Here we go again. He is asking those people to enquiry who are corrupt themselves. This is the problem, these politicians talk as if there own enquires/judicial enquires are really impartial and unbiased. The whole system is a mess. The Media needs to play its part here in getting this person justice. They should be hounding the owners of Gerry's to explain their decision in full. What exactly did he do which warranted an immediate dismissal as opposed to a warning first?

Pakistani population need to learn how to use their individual influence. Instead of just talking about in your houses and streets take action that will bring results. I have written a letters to all embassy's and consulates and Foreign office of the countries who visa service Gerry's support (Like UK, Sweden, Norway etc). stating the fact that they are supporting organizations like Gerry's group that are against free speech and supporting feudalism. This organization supports corrupt politicians and operate against the business ethics. If these countries actually stand behind their morals they will black list Gerry's and take their business away from them..... Plus stop using their services.....
If 20% of the people will do that and Gerry's will see real impact on their business they will change their ways.... and other will be very careful in fallowing them.... but I know Pakistani are not positive action oriented and would rather go on street and burn the little infrastructure they have ....

Pakistan Parliamentary Committee investigation are jokes. They have never proven anything and are total nonviable.
What is needed is PPP and PML-N (wutta sutt parties) to go. We need intelligent leaders who are also good technocrats and work with honest leaders like Musharraf, Imran.

Not to justify Malik's action but who was the PIA official who obliged Mr Malik. He is more responsible than Mr Malik. He should be sacked in place of Mr Arjumand.
