LAHORE: A comprehensive and effective crime-fighting policy has been adopted to curb street crime in the city.

Capital City Police Officer retired Capt Amin Wains said while speaking at a meeting of the Model Town Society management, police officers and SHOs of the Model Town police division here on Thursday.

He said all beat in-charges and constables under his control would play a key role in this regard.

Like station house officers (SHOs), beat in-charges would be held accountable for crime in their beat. They would not only conduct patrolling on the pattern of the Mujahid Force and Tiger Squad but would also set up pickets if needed, he said.

The CCPO said the police and MTS guards would conduct a joint patrolling in the area to prevent crimes.

He announced the provision of 15 motorcycles to police by the Model Town Society and the construction of kiosks at different points in the area, adding that it was the responsibility of public to cooperate with police in controlling crime.

The CCPO said in addition to introducing the beat system, safety committees at the police station and beat level comprising notables of respective areas were also being constituted to get full cooperation of the civil society for the eradication of crime.

MTS president Saifur Rehman appreciated the police-public partnership policy introduced by the CCPO and expressed the hope that it would yield positive results.

DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf, Model Town SP (Operations) Baqar Raza, SP Security Liaquat Ali Malik, SHOs of the division and members of the MTS were also present.

Arrested: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday arrested two ‘most wanted’ human smugglers.

Officials said the anti-human trafficking cell arrested Abdul Ghaffar and Khurram Shahzad wanted in a number of cases in Lahore.

The cell also arrested Muzaffar Bokhari and Mian Ashfaq for arranging fake visas for France for their clients.

Meanwhile, the immigration authorities arrested three passengers at the Allama Iqbal International Airport. Wajahat Ameen was arrested for trying to board a flight to Russia on fake visa while Muhammad Aslam and Qadeer Husain were the blacklisted persons.
