KASUR: Yarn and other raw material were gutted in a fire at the godown of a textile unit on Saddar Divan Road on Tuesday.

The fire at Mirajdin Textile Mills godown owned by Muhammad Sadique caught fire due to a short circuit. The owner estimated a loss of about Rs500,000.

ROBBERIES: A gang of eight robbers deprived a family of gold, cash and other valuables worth Rs700,000 at Sheikh Sahd Kalo village on Tuesday.

Eight armed men entered Sabir’s house, held up the family at gunpoint and fled with Rs250,000 cash, 10 tolas of gold ornaments, two mobile phone sets and a weapon.

In another incident, four robbers took away four-tola gold ornaments, Rs80,000 cash and other valuables from Iqbal’s house at Sardar Colony.

ACCIDENT: A child was run over and killed by a tractor-trolley at Haveli Pehlwanwali village on Tuesday.

Five-year-old Muhammad Naveed was standing on a roadside near his house when the tractor-trolley knocked him down. The driver escaped.

AIOU: Scores of candidates of the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) are facing hardships in depositing their admission fee for Autumn 2014 semester of the university with the banks.

The students, including females, spend most of the time outside one or the other bank but return disappointed as the banks staff don’t deposit fee on the pretext that their branches are overburdened.

Sept 5 is the last date to submit fee.

The students, including Rukhsana Bibi, Abida Razzaq, Raheela, Naureen, Faiza, Nadia, Muhammad Nadeem and Muhammad Afzal, complained that the banks staff had refused to deposit fee, asking them to go to some other bank.

The candidates were given the same response by all banks, including the National Bank of Pakistan.
