LAHORE: Former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar M. Khan is all set to be the next chairman of the PCB once again as his nomination papers for the election of the PCB chief were submitted on Friday, which was the last day for submission of the papers.

A 10-member PCB Governing Board is to elect the new chairman on Aug 18 (Monday) but as no nomination papers were received by anyone against Shaharyar he is most likely to be elected unopposed.

However, the election commission and acting PCB chairman retired Justice Sair Ali will scrutinise the papers of Shaharyar, before declaring him successful PCB chairman for the next term of three years.

Meanwhile, president of the Karachi Region Ijaz Farooqi has also been cleared to sit in the Governing Board of the PCB, which will select the new PCB chairman on Monday as his legal case in the Lahore High Court has been decided.

Earlier, for that case the PCB has not included him in the electoral list.

Representatives from the Rawalpindi Region are not eligible to sit in the Governing Board meeting as an ad hoc body is working there.

Others members of the GB are Islamabad, Peshawar, Karachi, National Bank of Pakistan, United Bank Limited, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines and Wapda.

Former PCB chairman Najam Sethi and Shaharyar are the two members who are appointed by the patron of the PCB, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
