what now Mr. PM, you should have come before and given a speech, before the Qadri thing started. It was in your hands to unite the nation but i guess you have divided in even further after some silly decisions you took, e.g barricading areas. You are loosing your existing followers this way. I can recall one of his address to nation when the first thing he said I have decided to resign.

@Harmony In all fairness, Imran Khan could also have used parliament to propose a constitutional amendment for election reform. Plus the hours and hours of media coverage of Tahir Q., even to the point of advocating violence, I guess Nawaz feels he needs some airtime too.

Whatever he does, the march on Islamabad dated August 14, 2014 is not going to be cancelled or called off to say the least.

If you were so inspiring in your speeches to the nation, explain to them 18-20 hours load shedding, ask them to endure hardships. get out of your cozy, comfort of Raiwind palace , try to have sleepless nights without air conditioners running 24 hours.

Why is he addressing the nation? He has lost all creditability.

NS wants to 'address' the nation only when he is in a political mess. He did not bother to address the nation at more important occasion like North Waziristan operation, and about more important issues like electricity crisis and the state of the economy.

I am glad that Nawaz Sharif eventually decided to point out the nation all the good deeds & cleaning up the mess, he had been doing for the past one year, PSM, PR, PIA, Karachi violence, economy, energy, foreign investment & list goes on. What Imran Khan & Qadri have done to contribute for the well being of our nation ? They & their followers can ask themselves & decide what they deserve.

Let's hope for country wide electricity breakdown. But, you gotta decide what would you prefer, until the speech is over or immediately after the speech.

The PM should address the Nation every 3 months with a progress report card for improved communication with the people. IK is disrupting the economic stability and peace for selfish reasons. PPP, MQM and the like are watching "tamasha" of "barbadi". Government should not allow lawlessness and deal with the disrupters as per law. No where in the civilized world, any government allows closure of cities for protests. Protestors have the right to protest without disrupting public life and it is the government's duty to ensure it with law enforcement

While I do not like Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif specially because (1) he got away with attempted murder of some 200 people on plane from Sri Lanka with Pervez Musharraf and (2) initiating criminal proceedings against Pervez Musharraf, I still firmly believe he should be replaced in next general election and not through protest marches, shouting slogans and threats. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has a duty to maintain law and order whether Mr. Imran Khan and Maulana Qadri like it or not.

He should come on Parliament then addressing to the nation through Television and Radio Pakistan.

@Dr Basheer No he could not. The PML-Q can change the constitution because they have the number of seats in the assembly to do so, but not IK.

He is going to take the nation in confidence about government's performance. What he thinks? Pakistanis are so stupid that they need his confidential report to learn about government's performance. Don't they see joblessness, lawlessness, inflation and above all open, blunt, bold, "in your face" corruption!! Is he going to take nation into confidence about his family assets that grew more than 100% in first 3 months of his government? Is he going to tell people that how much ruling mafia has stolen from the people of Pakistan? He is only going on T.V as a last ditch effort to save his monarchy. He is going to lie some more and insult the collective intelligence of the nation. He is only going to hurt him with this speech.

Why not address the parliament where he got elected to his post? He is not directly elected by the people as a president would be under a presidential system of government. So I don't see the logic of making this direct address - other than trying to hoodwink the population with a new series of sweetened promises and blatant lies!

The PTI supporters should be prepared for disappointment. The PM should not resign. Whenever the next elections are called PTI will not win. PAT will be wiped out. My family and I have decided not to support PTI anymore. The voters of islamabad wasted their votes on Asad Omar. Similarly the people of Pindi wasted their votes on IK. The level of immaturity exhibited by IK and TuQ is very disappointing. Both of them are behaving like Thugs.

Unless this address is to announce your resignation and announce new elections, please do not bother. No one believes a word you say.

I hope he announces his resignation. Thats the only true gift nation expecting from him.

He is not taking anyone in confidence.he never ever did nor will ever ! As a matter of fact he is addressing the nation due to lack of confidence in himself to deal with Imran Khan and Tahir ul Qadri.

@Mustafa J. I can't believe I am saying this but I also support Nawaz Sharif in this situation. I think IK and Qadri are on the wrong side of history. If educated people like them who have also been exposed to western style democracy and who have experienced diversified cultures and have interacted with enlightened people, will act against the interests of our country then what can we expect from illiterate masses and molvis? If IK and Qadri really want to create a "new" Pakistan then they MUST follow the rule of the law and engage in civilized democratic discourse instead of civil disobedience and confrontation.
