JAKARTA, July 18: Indonesia’s military claimed on Friday to have killed 25 separatists during gun battles over two days in the restive Aceh province.

The military’s announced death toll since imposing martial law and deploying troops to Aceh now totals at least 481 dead separatist rebels since May 19, officials said.

During the same period, 33 military troops and 10 police officers were killed, while 69 soldiers and 55 policemen were wounded. Soedarsono said as many as 365 separatist rebels were captured and 350 others surrendered to Indonesian authorities.—dpa
