KARACHI: Former champions Railways trounced Army 3-1 to cruise into semi-final of the 28th National Women’s Hockey Championship at Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium on Sunday.
Railways become the second team after defending champions Wapda to earn a place in last four. Both teams have won three matches apiece in their respective groups.
Nimra Abdul Khaliq scored twice while Aqsa Mumtaz completed the tally for winners. Iqra Javed reduced the deficit for Army.
This was Army’s first defeat in three games and they are certain to ensure a passage in quartet by finishing runners-up in the pool B.
Low-profile Sindh Whites, Balochistan and Punjab Whites are other three teams in pool B.
In other match, Punjab Whites scored a solitary goal victory over Balochistan to register second win. Humaira Latif scored the all-important goal for winning outfit.
Earlier in the first match, Higher Education Commission (HEC) outplayed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 15-0 to consolidate their position in pool A.
Bushra Nazeer and Shafaq-ul-Ain shared eight goals amongst themselves followed by Sehrish (3), Vaneeza Bashir (2), Ayesha Zaman and Muniza Irum one apiece.
Monday’s fixtures: At 10.30am: Wapda v Sindh Colours
At 2.00pm: HEC v Punjab Colours
At 3.30pm: Army v Sindh Whites.
