LAHORE: The National College of Arts students portrayed new horizons of thought and novel ideas in amazing colours and forms amid an air of festivity at the institution’s Degree Show 2013 that opened here on Monday.

Students through their works tried to highlight various socio political issues mainly focusing gender, women empowerment and growing aggression in society through their body of work.

There was a great deal of diversity in the works of students belonging to different cultural backgrounds and places.

A number of students, their relatives, friends and artists came to see the thesis show. The activity was going on all over the college campus since a number of departments had put on display the thesis work of their students.

The event could be considered the largest ever exhibition organised by the NCA under one roof spanning over some two weeks.

The work of students from different NCA departments, including fine arts, design, architecture, multimedia, interior design and film and TV was put on display.

The fine arts department displayed work by some 40 young inspiring artists with majors in sculpture, printmaking, painting and miniature painting.

Work of some 15 students of textile design department, six of ceramic design, 18 of communication design and two students of product design was part of the exhibition.

The film and TV batch consists of 14 students. The architecture department is exhibiting projects by 50 young architects.

Some 20 students doing their graduation, each from the departments of multimedia and interior design, are exhibiting their work. The interior design thesis is displayed at the Tollinton Market, adjacent to the Lahore Museum.

The thesis work of 15 students who had done their master’s in visual arts was also part of the show though it had already been displayed from Dec 20, 2013, to Jan 3.

The annual degree show which would be on view from January 13 to 26. The gallery will be open from 9am to 5pm daily. A private preview of the show was organised on Sunday last for senior artists.
