Bilal Khan relies on periodical release of singles with striking videos to keep himself alive in the music circuit. This makes sense as it also helps an artist in fetching concerts locally as well as internationally. Recently, he launched a new video of the track Do Gharhee which has been shot in New York with model/actress Annie Ali Khan.

Regarding the music and production of the video, Bilal says, “I wrote Do Gharhee while on tour in New York and I felt it made sense to shoot its video there too. I recorded it in Washington DC with Jarar Malik and got it mixed in the US, too. Then I contacted Mehreen Jabbar to see if she was up to shoot the song. She teamed up with Sofian Khan and we shot it in four days.”

The concept remains simple and serene. An upcoming musician (Bilal) is all set to play his guitar when he spots a stunning lady in the subway. It’s love at first sight. They again meet when Annie is playing the keyboard and she notices Bilal looking at her. Things works out between them and the rest of the video is based on their affair in NYC with shots of Bilal playing in the background.

Mehreen Jabbar’s impressive direction manages to sync well with the melody, beat and lyrics of Do Gharhee. While the track is fast-paced and melodious, its video enhances the overall romantic appeal. So how does a video add value to the track? “On some songs it can aid the visual. On certain songs it takes away the focus. With Do Gharhee I always saw it being shot in a cosmopolitan city and it’s a love song so it was important to tell a story.

“Videos really help if you are starting out. It would establish your identity and your art. In my case however, I think it serves the purpose of making my fans share the experiences I am having. I was in New York City, which is amazing, and I wanted to share that with my fans. What better way than to do it through a video and song?” he asks.

Bilal has sung many noted OSTs for different drama serials. Regarding the experience, he says, “I’ve been busy touring and recording and writing my own songs lately. The last one I did was Roshan Sitara and I really liked that tune.

When inquired about his future plans, Bilal responds, “I have been trying to write more quality songs. It takes time to perfect a song with a lot of tweaking and analysing. I’m trying to get better at it.” Regarding tours in the pipeline, he enlightens, “I am resting for the time period. I feel I have played a lot of shows in the last two years and I want to just chill out for a bit. I think once I have put out a lot of new music out there, I will start doing more shows.”
