QUETTA, Oct 22: The Anti-Terrorism Court for Quetta reissued on Tuesday arrest warrants for a former prime minister, Balochistan governor and Dera Bugti district coordination officer in the Nawab Akbar Bugti murder case and ordered that they be produced before it at the next hearing.

ATC Judge Tariq Anwar Kasi issued the order while reserving the judgment on an application filed by former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf seeking exemption from appearing before the court.

The former military ruler’s counsel argued that his client could not appear before the court because of security concern.

The investigation officer informed the court that a letter had been written to the federal government for the arrest of former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, ex-governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and former DCO Abdul Samad Lasi, but a reply was still awaited.

The counsel for Nawabzada Jamil Akbar Bugti opposed the exemption for Gen Musharraf and accused the persecution of prolonging the hearing to benefit the nominated accused in the case.

Former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao and former provincial home minister Mir Shoaib Nausherwani attended the hearing.

Nawab Bugti was killed by security forces in the mountains of Dera Bugti district on Aug 26, 2006.

The hearing was adjourned to Nov 26.
