LAHORE, May 5: It remained hot in the plains of the country, including Lahore, on Sunday and the Met office expected the temperatures to further rise in the next few days because of clear weather.

It was hot and dry in Lahore despite partly cloudy weather. Roads remained deserted as hot wind blew throughout the day. A large number of people nevertheless chose it to spend the weekly holiday at the city canal to beat the heat.

The maximum temperature was 40.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum 24 with 44 per cent humidity in the morning and 27 per cent in the evening.

Like Lahore, most of cities in the plains of the country recorded above 40 degree Celsius temperature. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Dadu which was 45.7. It was 43.3 degrees C in Dera Ghazi Khan.

Meanwhile, a westerly wave over the northern parts of the country generated light rain there. Astore received 12mm of rain, Dir 11mm, Mirkhani and Hunza 8mm, Drosh and Bunji 5mm, Chilas 4mm, Gilgit 3mm, Chitral 2mm and Bannu, Kakul and Murree 1mm.

The Met office said the westerly wave would continue to persist but it would have no impact on the plain areas where it would remain mainly hot and dry with chances of dust-raising winds in the next 24 hours.

However, there were chances of light rain over the northern parts of the country, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.

It will remain partly cloudy in Lahore with chances of dust-raising winds.
