LANDI KOTAL, Nov 17: Unidentified gunmen abducted and shot dead an arms dealer in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency on Saturday.

Sources said that gunmen riding motorcycles abducted Noor Faqir from his house in Naw Gazee Baba, Shalobar, and killed him few metres away from his home. Nobody claimed responsibility for the killing.

The deceased had Rs100,000 cash in his pocket at the time of the incident, however, the killers did not take away the money.

MISSING: Two khasadars went missing in Jamrud on Saturday, sources said.

Although there was no official confirmation of the disappearance of the officials, khasadars in Jamrud told Dawn that Jan Afzal and his junior colleague Hanif went missing when they were returning from Shahkas area. They had gone there to greet some pilgrims upon their return from Haj.

The cellular phones of the missing khasadars were not responding, officials at Takhta Beg checkpost said.

Political Agent Mutahir Zeb, when contacted, said that the missing officials had gone to Shalobar area in Bara by themselves.

Jamrud Political Tehsildar Asmatullah Wazir did not respond to repeated telephone calls in this regard. Ironically, more than 80 per cent of Shalobar people had moved out of their area owing to the ongoing military operation.

“Why would Jan Afzal go to Shalobar ‘on his own’ as all his relatives had moved out of that troubled area,” said one of his colleagues on condition of anonymity.

The missing official Jan Afzal belonged to Shalobar tribe of Bara and had twice served as line officer of Khasadar Force in Bara. —Correspondent
