LAHORE, March 28: Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Irfan Basra extended on Monday physical remand of PML-Q MPA Moonis Elahi till April 1 in the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam case.

Moonis was produced before the court under strict security arrangements and a large number of his party workers welcomed him amid deafening chants. An FIA investigating officer requested the court to allow more remand and claimed that more clues were found in the case.

Defence counsel Iqbal Bhatti opposed the request, and said his client was being unnecessarily detained.

Moonis also told the court he had cooperated with the FIA, but so far he had not been shown any proof or evidence against him. Rangers and police personnel arranged strict security measures on the court premises.
