ATTOCK, April12: The District Bar Association (DBA) Attock on Thursday suspended the membership of two pro-government advocates. In a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chairman DBA Rana Afsar Ali Khan former President DBA Attock Sheikh Ehsanuddin advocate presented a resolution seeking suspension of membership of senator Sardar Mehmood Khan advocate and MPA Syed Ejaz Shah Bukhari advocate.

The resolution said since they belonged to PML and did not participate in lawyers struggle for, what they said, the emancipation of judiciary, their DBA’s membership should be suspended.

Through another resolution, Sheikh Ehsanuddin also demanded of the judiciary to observe pen down or complete strike as mark of solidarity with the lawyers struggle against the unjustified act of suspension of CJP and for his immediate reinstatement. The meeting adopted both the resolutions unanimously.

The meeting also paid rich tribute to the Bhakkar additional district and sessions judge Qazi Waqar Ahmed for resigning in protest against the presidential reference. The meeting decided to invite him for address at DBA Attock as he belongs to Attock district.

Speaking on the occasion, Rana Afsar Ali Khan advocate, Sheikh Ehsanuddin advocate, Akhtar Ali Khan advocate, Waqar Azeem Siddique advocate, Tahir Bukhari advocate and Shahnawaz advocate said that country-wide protests by lawyers show their unity and a no-confidence in government. They said the reference against the CJP was a futile exercise which had created a crisis in the country and it should be withdrawn immediately.

They said the lawyers had a one-point agenda of getting the CJP reinstated and they were ready to face whatever difficulties may arise during the campaign.

They said March 9 would be remembered as black day in the country’s history.

A reporter from Pindi adds: Lawyers continued protests on Thursday as Rawalpindi District Bar Association (DBA) offered honorary membership to Qazi Waqar, who recently resigned as additional district and sessions judge, Bhakar. The DBA also welcomed the Attock DBA decision to suspend the membership of Senator Sardar Mehmood Khan advocate and MPA Ijaz Bukhari advocate.

The Rawalpindi DBA also gave final touches to protests plan for Friday in front of the Supreme Court.

The meeting was attended by President Supreme Court Bar Association Munir A Malik, Vice President PBC Ali Ahmed Kurd, Hamid Khan advocate, president Lahore High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi along with a large number of office bearers of district bar associations from Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Speaking on the occasion the lawyers resolved to counter all government’s moves to sabotage their peaceful protest on Friday. They expressed their determination to reach the Constitution Avenue despite all odds.

After the meeting, the lawyers gathered at Kuchari Chowk and chanted anti-government and pro-CJ slogans. They remained there for some time and dispersed peacefully.

CHAKWAL: A complete strike was observed by the lawyers’ community who boycotted courts at Talagang, Chakwal, Choa Saiden Shah, here on Thursday.

Lawyers Nadeem Iqbal and Malik Yasir Masroor participated in the hunger strike camp, set up at the Chakwal District Bar, where anti-Musharraf slogans were raised.

Member Punjab Bar Council Hassan Raza Pasha said the lawyers’ strike would continue on Friday as well when over 80 lawyers, from the Chakwal district, would reach Islamabad to join the protest in front of the Supreme Court building on Friday, to express solidarity with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudry.
