KARACHI, May 13: Ida Rieu Whites beat the Shaheen Cricket Club by two wickets in the final match of the Annual All Karachi Cricket Tournament of the Blind on Thursday.

Four teams participated in the tournament, sponsored by social worker and artist Jimmy Engineer, held at the ground of the Ida Rieu School and College for the Deaf and Blind, on Nizami Road near Purani Numaish.

Two other teams that participated in the tournament, played on single league system, were the Shaheed-i-Millat Cricket Club of the Blind and the Ida Rieu Greens.

The Man of the Series Award was won by Shahzad (Ida Rieu Whites), while winners in other categories were: Best Batsman, Qadir Bux (Ida Rieu Green); Best Bowler, Khush Ahmad (Ida Rieu Green); Best Fielder, Waqar (Shaheen Cricket Club); Best Behaviour, Raheel Abbas (Captain of Ida Rieu Green), while Zubair was declared the most well-disciplined player of the tournament.

ART CONTEST: A prize-distribution ceremony for the art competition held among the deaf students, also organized by Jimmy Engineer, was also held on the occasion. The competition was held in four categories - glass painting, landscape, still life and oil on canvas.

The students, Shazia, Al-Afia and Irfan were declared first, second and third, respectively, in the glass painting category, while Fareedoon, Naseem and Salman were adjudged first, second and third, respectively, in the landscape category.

While Saira, Ashraf and Farhan clinched the three top slots, respectively, in the still life category and Gulnaz Khan, Masoodur Rehman and Farheen were given the first, second and third prizes in the oil-on-canvas category.

Ida Rieu Welfare Association Vice-President Vice Admiral Khalid M Mir distributed the prizes among the winners. Ida Rieu's Qudsia Khan, Jimmy Engineer and others also spoke on the occasion.
