KARACHI: Convicted cricket agent Mazhar Majeed has filed an appeal against the verdict announced in November at London's Southwark Crown Court.

Majeed, who had pleaded guilty, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison for being part of a spot-fixing scandal in which three Pakistani cricketers were also involved and conspiring against bookmakers.

Pakistan’s former Test captain Salman Butt was sentenced to two and a half years in jail for being the master mind behind the plot to bowl deliberate no-balls at Lord’s in 2010 against England. Mohammad Asif was sentenced to 12 months while Mohammad Amir was sentenced to six months.

Previously, Butt and Amir had also filed appeals to have their sentences reduced at the Court of Appeal but their requests were refused.

An ICC tribunal had imposed a ban on Butt, Asif and Amir for 10, seven and five years, respectively, from all levels of international and domestic cricket last year.
