KARACHI: Mohammad Hasan slammed an unbeaten double century as Karachi Whites declared their first innings at a mammoth 551-7 declared against Lahore Shalimar on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Division II fixture at the NBP Sports Complex here on Thursday.
The talented 21-year-old wicket-keeper/batsman struck 251 off 379 minutes with 15 boundaries as he and opener Behram Khan extended their overnight fifth-wicket stand of 201 to 359 before Behram was out for a 354-ball 175. Behram’s maiden first-class century contained 18 fours and one six. It was a splendid job done by the two relatively inexperienced batsmen considering the hosts were in trouble at 86-4 on Wednesday.
Lahore Shalimar, after chasing the leather for more than 11 hours in the field, were 58-2 at draw of stumps.Veteran Rizwan Ahmed scored his career’s first double ton — an 200 not out off 410 balls with 16 fours —while Lal Kumar made a career-best 133 (288 balls, 17 boundaries) to help Hyderabad post 500-7 declared against Multan at the Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur.
Multan, in reply reached 34-3.
Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) earned a much-needed lead of 44 runs on the first innings after making 224 against Lahore Ravi at the LCCA Ground. However at one stage KRL were in danger of being dismissed for a low score when they subsided to 102-7, but Yasir Arafat hit a 114-ball 78 while dominating a 70-run partnership with KRL captain Zulfiqar Jan (23).
Lahore Ravi were 55-1 in the second innings after opener Abid Ali was forced to retire out at the start of the innings.
SNGPL were closing on an early win after reducing United Bank to 45-2 in the second innings at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.
Earlier, SNGPL earned a massive 266-run lead on the first innings by making 393 with Khurram Shahzad (122 off 136 balls, 24 fours) and Ali Waqas (97 off 150 balls, 11 boundaries) adding 213 for the fifth wicket.
Peshawar, who host SNGPL in the Dec 8-12 final, were 86-1 after obtaining a first-innings lead of 94 over Quetta at the Arbab Niaz Stadium. Riaz Afridi took 5-37 as Quetta collapsed for 145.
