KARACHI, March 23: A 55-year-old man was shot dead and his teenage son wounded when they came under an armed attack outside their home near Sohrab Goth on Wednesday, police said.

They said that the victim, Ghulam Hyder, was a resident of Gabol Goth within the remit of the Sohrab Goth police station.

“Mr Hyder was at home when someone knocked at the door,” said an official at the Sohrab Goth police station. “He went there and, according to his family, after a few seconds they heard him shouting. His 19-year-old son, Ashiq Hussain, also rushed towards the door to find out what was happening and saw that two strangers were arguing with his father.”

“As the teenager remained unable to understand the situation, one of the men pulled out a pistol and fired shots that left Hyder dead and Ashiq wounded. Both were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital while the attackers ran away on foot,” he added.

The police official said that the victim was a contractor and the incident appeared to be a result of some monetary dispute.

A case (FIR 196/2011) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unidentified attackers on a complaint of the wounded teenager.

Young man shot dead

A young man was gunned down in Federal B Area in the early hours of Wednesday.

The area police said that Shahzad Memon, in his early 30s, was targeted in the Hussainabad area when he was returning home.

“Two men on a motorbike fired at him near Memon Masjid in the area and sped away,” said an official at the Azizabad police station, adding that the victim had a criminal record and was nominated in some cases relating to robbery and possession of illegal weapons.

Bullet-riddled body found

The body of a youngster was found in the Gadap area on Wednesday.

The police said the body was found in the bushes near Thadda Hotel along the Superhighway.

“It appears that the body had lain there for the past four days. The victim was wearing black shalwar-kameez. He sustained four bullet wounds and was targeted from a very close range,” said an official at the Gadap City police station.

He said that the body was shifted to the Edhi morgue for want of identification after completion of required medico-legal formalities.
