PPP (SB), PML (Q) unite against Benazir

LARKANA, Dec 12: The chairperson of Pakistan People’s Party (Shaheed Bhutto) Ghinwa Bhutto and the president of Larkana chapter of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Haji Altaf Unnar joined hands against Benazir Bhutto on Wednesday and reached a seat-adjustment accord for a number of key national and provincial assembly seats.

Haji Altaf Hussain Unnar announced seat adjustments with PPP-SB for NA-204 (Larkana-1) and PS-36 (Larkana City) after a brief meeting with Ms Ghinwa at Al-Murtaza House.

According to the agreement, Babu Sarwar Siyal of PML-Q would withdraw papers in favour of Ms Ghinwa Bhutto for NA-204 while Farooque Bhutto of PPP-SB would take back papers in favour of PML-Q candidate Altaf Ansari for PS-36 (Larkana-City). Benazir Bhutto has also filed papers for NA-204.

The PPP-SB announced that the party would support Amir Bakhsh Bhutto, the central vice-chairman of the Sindh National Front (SNF) for PS-37, Abdul Rafi of PML-F for PS-38 and Sardar Chandio of PML-Q for PS-39 (Qambar). The candidates were running against PPP’s Ayaz Soomro, Haji .Munwar Ali Abbasi and Ghulam Mujadid Isran, respectively.

Ms Ghinwa and Mr Unnar said that they had joined hands to fight against PPP chairperson for NA-204. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, former leader of opposition in Sindh assembly, would now face joint candidate of PPP-SB and PML-Q Altaf Ansari for PS-36.

Ms Ghinwa, meanwhile, criticised the government for backing an Israeli resolution in the United Nations and termed Pakistan’s support uncalled for. It would be tantamount to lending support to the state of Israel, she added.
