KARACHI: Governor Nehal Hashmi on Saturday took the oath as Chief Scout of Sindh, pledging to revive scouting in schools and colleges to instil patriotism, discipline and a spirit of public service among the youth.

Provincial Scout Commissioner Justice (retd) Hassan Feroz administered the oath to the governor at a ceremony held in Karachi.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said, “There is a need to revive scouting in schools and colleges”, adding that scouts and girl guides had played a prominent role in national events in the past and had served as ambassadors of Pakistan.

The governor stressed that alongside technological progress, a strong ideology, discipline, knowledge and character were essential for the development of nations.

“We must instil in our youth love for Pakistan, the spirit to serve the country and to help others,” he said.

He said that there was also a need to revive the Scouts, Girl Guides and National Cadet Corps. “By 2047, every school and college in Pakistan should have scouts and girl guides serving the nation,” he added.

The governor also participated in a tree-plantation campaign by planting a sapling.

He thanked the Scout community for entrusting him with the responsibility of Chief Scout and pledged to discharge his duties with dedication and commitment.

The ceremony was attended by former Sindh chief secretary Siddiq Memon, Principal Secretary to the Governor Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman and others.
