GUJRAT: Two suspects were killed while one suspect was arrested in injured condition in three separate encounters in different parts of the province.
In one incident, a suspect wanted in the murder of a police constable died ‘by the firing of his own accomplices’ during an encounter with the police in Kolian Habeeb village.
A Gujrat Police spokesperson said that police had set up a picket in the area where four unidentified suspects opened fire at the police, which was also returned. When the firing stopped, police claimed that a suspect was found in injured condition, who had sustained bullet injuries by the firing of his own accomplices.
The suspect was later identified as Muhammad Shahzad of Malikpur Mirza and was wanted in the murder of police constable Umar Aftab.
The constable was killed by alleged robbers near the Karianwala police precincts a few months ago.
The spokesperson claimed that the injured suspect, during initial investigation, revealed that Shahid Iqbal, Mujahid Iqbal and Zikriya Butt were also present with him during the encounter but they managed to flee.
The spokesperson said that the injured suspect succumbed to the bullet wounds while being shifted to the hospital.
Police also claimed to have recovered a gun from the suspect and a case had also been lodged against four nominated suspects by the Kharian Saddar police on the report of sub-inspector Faiz Ahmed.
BAHAWALPUR: The Machiwal police in Vehari district claimed to have arrested a wanted criminal after an encounter in injured condition.
According to a Vehari Police spokesperson, an unidentified motorcyclist looted citizens at gunpoint near Chak 6-WB and fled towards Machiwal. After receiving information of the incident, police chased the suspect and exchanged fire during the encounter.
The spokesperson claimed that in a state of confusion, the suspect collided with a concrete barrier near Chak 561/EB and suffered injuries. The police party arrested him and he was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police said the suspect was identified as Tarqi Nasim, a resident of Ritta Tibba of Vehari district. He was a suspect in as many as 26 cases of dacoity, robbery and theft in Lahore, Vehari and Toba Tek Singh districts. He was also wanted for ten heinous crimes in Vehari district, police claimed.
TOBA TEK SINGH: An alleged robber was killed in an encounter with the Nawan Shehar police late on Wednesday night. Police claimed that when a police party stopped three suspects riding a motorcycle near Aujla locality, they opened fire.
Cops returned the fire in self defense and when the firing stopped, police claimed that the dead body of one suspect was found. Police claimed that he was killed by the firing of his accomplices, who had managed to escape.
The deceased suspect was identified as Ramzan Rummy Hiraj, and he was found involved in dozens of robbery cases in different police stations of Khanewal.
