KARACHI: City Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has inaugurated the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Sports Complex in Landhi Town following its renovation and refurbishment.
Addressing the gathering, Murtaza Wahab said that the establishment of a modern sports complex for citizens in Landhi Town was a welcome initiative.
Ordinary citizens, the poor and the middle class should also have access to all recreational and public spaces as not everyone could afford to visit expensive restaurants or sports clubs, the city mayor said.
He said the complex would provide modern and quality sports facilities to citizens, particularly the young people from Landhi and adjoining areas, within their own locality.
He said that the KMC Sports Complex was equipped with modern facilities for various sports while a swimming pool would also be available for the public.
Martial arts training and other facilities would also be provided in the facility in order to develop healthy activities in the youth of Landhi.
The sports facilities would provide young people with greater opportunity to showcase their talent and advance in the field of sports, he said.
The mayor added that connecting the younger generation with sports grounds was essential for building a healthy society. Sports activities develop discipline, teamwork and a competitive spirit in the people, he said.
He said that the KMC was improving sports infrastructure in different parts of the city and the provision of quality sports facilities to citizens in their own localities was among the priorities of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
The mayor said that the doors of public spaces must be opened to the people of Karachi. He said that people from all areas, including Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi and Malir should also have access to recreational and public facilities.
