SAHIWAL: The district council sealed the premises of a private college and university campus spread over 50 kanals near Chak 99/9-L on the Pakpattan Road for failing to pay Rs21.45m in conversion fees, map approval charges and condonation fees.
The institution’s building was sealed under the Punjab Local Governments Land Use Plan (Classification, Reclassification and Redevelopment) Rules, 2022, District Officer Planning Javed Gondal told Dawn.
Khudadad Tarar, CEO Zila Council, said multiple notices had been served to the college CEO, Waheedul Haq, but he repeatedly delayed compliance with requirements for building, including map approval, NOC, and conversion fees.
“Even after the chief secretary allowed relief by directing the college administration to deposit one percent of the fee — Rs 52,000 per kanal — the college management and CEO failed to pay the amount,” he added.
Tarar warned that if dues remain unpaid, the council will recommend demolition of the building whose approval will be awarded by Deputy Commissioner, Sahiwal.
Meanwhile, the district administration has launched a demolition drive against 28 illegal housing societies falling in the jurisdiction of the District Council.
SUICIDE: An elderly man committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in the courtyard of a mosque at Chak 114/9-L. Reports said Muhammad Iqbal, 60, had frequent domestic disputes with his wife over minor issues. After quarrels, he would often go to the mosque courtyard and sleep there till evening.
On Sunday again, he quarrelled with his wife, however, instead of lying down, he ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of the mosque.
Ghala Mandi police shifted the body to Sahiwal Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem.
HOSPITALISED: Ten members of a family, including a woman and seven children, fell ill after consuming contaminated milk at village Paka Sudhar, district Pakpattan.
Reports said cousins Muhammad Hameed and Muhammad Rafiq lived together as a joint family. Their buffalo produced milk that was boiled to prepare Bohli. It is suspected that the milk was contaminated or a toxic substance accidentally fell into it.
Soon after consumption, the family members developed severe stomach pain. Rescue 1122 transported all patients to hospital in three ambulances. The patients included Hameed, Rafiq, and children Munaf, Atiya, Fajar, Kinza, Saim Mahboob, Khadija, along with Mariam Bibi, a woman of the household. Hospital sources said all the sick were stable.
