THIS is with reference to report “Cabinet extends Rangers’ deployment in Sindh for one more year” (July 8). The paramilitary force was deployed in Sindh back in 1989 originally to assist Sindh Police to curb rising political and sectarian violence, indicating the failure of policing system in the province. As things stand today, the crime graph in Karachi has shown a rising trend with each passing year. Is there no one in the provincial cabinet to question the performance of Rangers and police in Sindh? Both these law-enforcement agencies consume public resources despite such widespread lawlessness. It is high time the Sindh government decided to get rid of either one of the two agencies to divert the funds thus saved towards improving the road conditions in Karachi.
