THE Education Department in Punjab has reportedly sealed a school on Burki Road in Lahore without communicating any reason, leaving hundreds of parents worried as their children are enrolled with the said school. Equally disturbing is the complete lack of communication from the school management. Repeated telephone calls to the principal, coordinators and the head office have gone unanswered, leaving parents in a state of anxiety and uncertainty.

The situation is particularly troubling because the school has already collected the full tuition fee for the summer vacation period, despite the Lahore High Court’s directive that private schools should charge only 50 per cent of the tuition fee during summer vacations. Parents now find themselves deprived not only of information, but also of any assurance regarding the future education of their children.

If the school is not reopened, they will have little time to secure admission for their children elsewhere. This would involve purchasing a set of new textbooks, stationery, uniforms and paying fresh admission fee and other charges, imposing an avoidable financial burden on families already struggling with rising living costs.

While the reasons for sealing the school may well be justified, innocent parents and students should not be made to suffer because of a dispute between the autho-rities and the school management. They deserve timely information, clear guidance and appropriate safeguards to protect the threatened academic future of their children.
