ISLAMABAD: Sheeraz Shakir Solangi, the 23-year-old son of senior journalist Shakir Solangi, died after suffering a cardiac arrest on Monday.

According to the family, Sheeraz complained of chest pain on Sunday night and was taken to a local health facility, where he received symptomatic treatment and was discharged. However, he did not wake up the following morning. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Sheeraz had returned from China after completing his graduation on July 24.

His funeral prayers were offered at a mosque at Al-Habib Market in G-7/2, Islamabad, after which his body was taken to his native Khairpur for burial.

A large number of journalists, representatives of media organisations and political figures attended the funeral.

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in a statement expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the tragic demise of the young son of the senior journalist, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Reporters Association. He said the loss of a young child was an irreparable loss for parents and family members. He said his thoughts and sympathies were with Shakir Solangi and the bereaved family in this hour of grief.

PPP spokesperson Shazia Marri also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death. In a condolence message, Ms Marri said she was deeply saddened by the tragic loss and extended her heartfelt sympathies to Mr Solangi and his bereaved family.
