SAHAB MAHAL: Hidden in the historic town of Tando Bago in Badin district stands Sahab Mahal, a magnificent but little-known architectural treasure that reflects the grandeur, elegance and cultural richness of Sindh’s bygone era. The provincial government has undertaken commendable steps for the rehabilitation and conservation of this historic landmark, but much more remains to be done. Proper restoration and promotion of Sahab Mahal could attract historians, architects, students, photographers, filmmakers and tourists from across Pakistan and abroad. The road leading to Sahab Mahal is presently in a miserable condition. It should be reconstructed so that tourists may visit the historic site safely and comfortably.

WATER SHORTAGE: According to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), the city requires approximately 1,200 million gallons of water per day (MGD), but receives only around 650MGD. People in old neighbourhoods, such as Ranchore Line and Narayanpura, wait for hours in narrow streets to collect water for daily use. Tanker expenses have become unaffordable for many families that are already facing inflationary pressures. Furthermore, water theft, illegal hydrants and leakage in outdated pipelines continue to waste a significant amount of water daily. Immediate action is required to repair aging infrastructure, control illegal water connections, and ensure fair distribution of water across Karachi.

AN ICON NO MORE: In over 70 years of watching top-level sport, I regard Garry Sobers as the finest sportsman who had talent, grace and elegance without arrogance. In the 1960s, I had the privilege of watching him play at Lord’s and The Oval. Not just in batting, bowling and fielding, but in his normal walk he had such rhythm and tempo which exuded confidence. The world will forever remain indebted to Sobers for the pleasure and entertainment he provided to the fans.
