TOBA TEK SINGH: Two persons have been critically burnt after a fire broke out after an explosion in the kitchen of a house due to a gas leakage near the Railway Station Chowk on Toba Road in Jhang on Sunday.

According to Rescue 1122, firefighters extinguished the fire and provided first aid to the victims. They were shifted to the Jhang DHQ Hospital and were identified as Asad Abbas (20) and Mukhtar (70).

Meanwhile, six persons of the same family were injured when the roof of their dilapidated house collapsed on Saturday night due to rain in Chak 7JB located on the Sargodha Road in Faisalabad.

They were identified as Allah Rakha (30), Zeeshan (27), Faizan (2), Muhammad Usman (1), Abiha (2) and Muhammad Subhan (1) and were shifted to the Allied Hospital.

In another incident, two men were seriously injured after a dilapidated wall of a house fell on them in Bismillah Town in Faisalabad. They were identified as Nadeem (50) and Shoaib (27). Rescuers removed the rubble and shifted them to the Allied Hospital.

POSTS UPGRADED: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider, as the Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), has approved the pending proposal of the upgradation of the post of research officers at the university with effect from April 2007 -- the same date on which the posts of lecturers had been upgraded.

The order also granted all consequential service, financial, and other admissible benefits after declaring the post of research officer as a teacher of the university.

UAF Directorate of Publications Principal Officer Muzaffar Hussain Salik said that this decision would benefit 66 research officers, senior research officers and several other teaching-equivalent positions at the UAF, ensuring long-awaited recognition of their rightful status.

ARREST: A Faisalabad FIA team claimed to have arrested two accused involved in a gold finance scheme fraud at a bank.

A press release said that accused jeweller Tahir Mahmood and bank cashier Abdul Razaq were arrested by SHO Ajmal Hussain after a case was registered against them. It claimed that during the initial investigation, 17 bags containing about 508 grams of gold were found missing, while about 1,376.5 grams of completely fake gold was recovered in 36 cases, about 244 grams of partially fake gold in six cases, and 1,742.5 grams of underweight gold in 48 cases.
