LAHORE: In a leap toward digital governance, the Punjab Assembly is set to go completely paperless from next session, a move projected to save millions of rupees in printing costs while championing environmental sustainability.
To facilitate this transition, advanced tablets have already been installed across the assembly hall for the lawmakers and staff.
A total of 380 high-tech tablets have been deployed inside the house, provided to the Punjab Assembly under the European Union’s IP-5 programme. The seat distribution includes 371 tablets for assembly members, three for house officers, and one dedicated tablet for the Speaker.
According to a Punjab Assembly spokesperson, a dedicated application has been designed exclusively for running assembly proceedings. The software was developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) in close consultation with the law department and the assembly’s internal IT team to ensure smooth legislative operations.
Punjab Assembly Secretary General Chaudhry Aamir Habib emphasized that this shift would deliver massive economic and environmental benefits. He stated that the upcoming session would be entirely paperless, and all members would receive the official session agenda directly on their screens.
This initiative positions the Punjab Assembly as a pioneer in digital legislative practices in the country.
