QUETTA: Leading tribal chiefs, nawabs, and political leaders from the Sarawan region, gathered in a tribal jirga held here on Monday, unanimously rejected the proposed administrative restructuring that would place Mastung under Quetta division and Kachhi under Sibi division.
They urged the government to reconsider its decision and restore the historical and geographical status of both areas.
The grand jirga was held at the residence of Sardar Kamal Khan Bangulzai and was attended by tribal chiefs, elders of Sarawan, and political leaders representing various political parties.
A joint declaration was issued after deliberations, during which the tribal elders and political leaders strongly opposed the proposed abolition of Kalat division and the plan to merge Mastung into Quetta division. They also rejected the proposal to remove Kachhi (Bolan) from Nasirabad division and attach it to Sibi division.
The jirga demanded that Mastung remain part of the historic Kalat division alongside Kalat and Surab, while Bhag and Kachhi should continue to remain within Nasirabad division.
The declaration rejected the proposed administrative changes and called upon the government to review its decisions. The leaders warned that if their demands were not accepted, a grand council comprising tribal and political leaders would formulate a future course of action. To pursue the matter, the jirga formed an empowered council consisting of tribal chiefs, political representatives, legal experts, and members of civil society.
