KARACHI: A suspected drug dealer was shot dead in an alleged encounter in Pak Colony early on Sunday morning, officials said.
A police spokesperson said that the police and a federal civilian agency, acting on a tip-off, conducted a joint operation in Old Golimar following reports of the presence of gang-war elements/drug dealers.
The official added that upon seeing the law enforcers, the suspects opened fire, and in the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one suspect, identified as Mairaj alias Choto, was gunned down.
One grenade, along with arms and ammunition, was recovered from his custody, the official added.
The police said the slain suspect had been involved in gang-war activities and was allegedly running a narcotics network in Old Golimar and adjoining areas.
“Mairaj alias Choto, a resident of Dost Mohammed Village in Old Golimar, was a notorious criminal affiliated with the Sajid and Wajid gang and was involved in murder, targeted killings, extortion, drug peddling and other heinous crimes,” said South DIG Syed Asad Raza.
