HYDERABAD: An inquiry has been initiated against Dr Mujeeb Kalwar, a BS-19 officer holding the charge of Additional Medical Superintendent (AMS) of the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH), over his alleged misbehaviour with male and female staff.

The inquiry committee, notified on March 25, is headed by Director General of Health Services, Sindh, Dr Waqar Memon with other members being Dr Nazir Rind (Director of the Provincial Health Development Centre, Jamshoro) and Dr Niaz Hussain Babar.

Dr Waqar Memon has nominated his deputy, Dr Saeed Ahmed Jalbani, to represent him in the inquiry proceedings.

Dr Kalwar, a senior dental surgeon, has held an administrative side post of the hospital for a long time.

The notification states that “the inquiry would be conducted regarding harassment and misbehaving with staff and his unacceptable behaviour”.

The inquiry team has already visited different departments and wards of the hospital to ascertain facts about its task.

According to sources, there have been complaints, made by both male and female staff members, regarding Dr Kalwar’s conduct. “Some are ready to submit written complaints,” they said, adding that the inquiry team has asked affected staffers to submit their complaints confidentially before any of its members.

Dr Kalwar had previously faced a serious issue relating to his alleged unprofessional conduct as doctor. He told Dawn on Friday that he was called by the committee but despite his request, he was not provided any material concerning the nature of the allegations against him in such complaints. He said he would be able to respond only when such complaints were shared with him.
