Back to school

I wish to share my views about the article “Back to school, still half-asleep” by Shahmeer Asif (YW, January 10).

The writer raised some good points to ponder, from rushing back into routine instantly to half-sleepy mornings.

Also, the advice about resolutions is agreeable. Every year, we burden ourselves with unnecessary resolutions. Why? Instead, I think we need to reflect on our past years’ uncompleted goals and try hard to fulfil them first, before burdening our lives with new ones.

The writer also pointed out some amazing treats that come with winter, be it food or the overall feel, but the good comes with some bad, too.

Seasonal illnesses are also a part of it, and we have to safeguard ourselves from any such unfortunate situation. Overall, the article was quite informative.

Go salty

This is regarding the story “Go salty” by Armeen Shahzad (YW, January 17).

The idea of letting salt narrate its own importance was creative. What could have been an ordinary topic turned into an interesting mix of food, science and reflection.

The slow transition of the story from kitchens to classrooms, connecting everyday cooking with chemistry and biology, was amazing.

I would like to thank the YW team for doing a great job and providing us with wonderful content to read.

The weight of expectations

This concerns the story “The weight of expectations” by Hoorain Imran (YW, January 31).

I must say that many kids expect rewards in return for their good deeds, which is not right, because one should not do good only to gain something. One should act with good intentions, and often, the rewards come naturally, without being sought.

So, to all those who expect something in return, it is important to understand that the true value lies in the kindness and effort behind your actions, not in what you receive for them.

The story “The weight of expectations” by Hoorain Imran did a wonderful job of showing how expectations can cloud our perspective, even in small, everyday moments. It also encouraged young readers to reflect on their own attitudes towards family, friends and gratitude.
