BAHAWALPUR: A man was killed while three others suffered serious injuries bracketed with roof collapse of several shops in a cylinder blast at a gas decanting shop on Railway Road, Dunyapur, Lodhran district, on Saturday.
According to Rescue 1122 Lodhran coordinator, shopkeeper Iqbal Shah (55) was buried under the debris while the adjacent furniture and other shops collapsed due to explosion. Shah died in the incident while his two sons, Rizwan Shah (22) and Afzal Shah (25), and one Akram (45) suffered serious injuries.
The injured and the dead were trapped under the debris and the rescuers pulled them after efforts. They all were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Dunyapur.
Several other shops around the area remained intact.
DOCTORS NEGLIGENCE: During a C-section of a patient at Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Burewala, in district Vehari the doctor as well as nurses left a needle in the abdomen of a woman, causing her immense pain and suffering for days.
Vehari Deputy Commissioner Khalid Javed Goraya has ordered an inquiry into the complaint of a woman.
According to details, some days back during the C-section of the woman, Shumaila Zia, gynecologist Dr Tasleem accidentally left a stitching needle in her abdomen. Due to the presence of needle, when Shumaila faced severe pain, she approached the lady doctor but she ignored her complaint. Later, an X-ray of her abdomen (arranged by herself) revealed that there was a needle in her abdomen.
During the DC’s inspection of the THQ hospital yesterday, Shumaila complained to him about it and he ordered an inquiry into negligence. The victim patient alleged that despite the clear picture of needle in her abdomen in the X-ray, the hospital staff did not take its notice to extract it from her abdomen.
Vehari District Health Authority (DHA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Fahad Waheed said that on DC’s orders, an inquiry committee, comprising two senior gynecologists of the DHQ Hospital Vehari, had been constituted to hold an inquiry into the patient’s complaint and fix the responsibility of negligence. However, the THQ hospital staff of Burewala said the needle would be taken out from the abdomen after admission of the patient to the hospital. Shumaila Zia has also appealed to the chief minister for action against the responsible officials.
