KARACHI: Sindh Rangers and the Counter-Terrorism Department claimed to have arrested a suspected militant belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Wednesday.
A Rangers spokesperson said in a statement that acting on a tip-off the law enforcers conducted a joint raid in Shershah and arrested “most-wanted criminal” Muhammad Noor, alias Khum.
He claimed to have recovered arms, ammunition and explosives from his custody.
During interrogation, the held suspect had ‘confessed’ to his involvement in targeted killings, extortion, bomb blasts, kidnapping for ransom and several police encounters, the spokesperson said.
According to the statement, the held suspect had joined the TTP’s Qayum Mehsud group in 2010 and carried out terrorist activities in the metropolis. There were several FIRs registered against him at the Manghopir and Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police stations.
In 2013 and afterwards, most of his accomplices were either killed or arrested by law enforcers during the Karachi operation. He left the city and went to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to avoid arrest. He was handed over to the police for further legal action.
