Ro Khanna, a Democratic congressman for California, has led a petition, first reported by The Guardian last week, calling on the US secretary of state to follow the lead of other European countries and recognise a Palestinian state.

In a post on X, he gave an update on how his initiative is underway, saying that “47 House Democrats supported my letter to recognise a Palestinian state. [Thirty] signed a letter explicitly opposing it”.
